ABSTRACT

The endoscopic treatment of subepithelial tumors (SETs) is not yet highly standardized in Western countries. With the development of the tunneling technique in peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and endoscopic closure techniques and tools, submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER) and endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) are emerging as therapeutic options for the treatment of these challenging lesions. In this article, we discuss possible and reasonable endoscopic therapeutic approaches in Western countries using the STER and EFTR techniques.
